A spontaneous concerned citizens committee to "Save Public Radio on the East End" (SPREE) was organized in mid-August and has not only rallied significant support for Peconic's efforts, but already generated over $7,500 in unsolicited donations, with more coming in daily. Over 750 East Enders, including virtually all senior elected officials, as well as many business people, artists and cultural leaders and a wide array of impressive permanent and part time residents have lent their names and their support to Peconic.
In response to budget shortfalls, Guild Hall has closed its adminstrative offices and the John Drew Theater for the Thansgiving week and put its workers on unpaid furlough. With a great history and deep connection to the Arts community on the East End, Guild Hall continues to make a huge contribution to the life on the East End. For artists, any major pullback in programs , significantly reduce opportunites available to local artists and hurt the quality of life.
